Legends in Anishinaabemowin

The Legend of the Birch Tree
Wiigwaas was given many gifts from the creator.  One of those gifts was to help others in a good way...

The Legend of the Woodpecker
A group of men were in their cabin.  It was getting dark and there was no electricity.

Algonquin (the origin of the name)
A long time ago on the eastern part of the Great Lakes the Anishinaabe traders were convinced to trap beaver, so the Europeans could make hats from the pelts.

The Legend of Nanabozho & Animoshak
Dogs lived close by where Nanabozho lived. They lived up on the hill and Nanabozho lived down below the hill.

Click on a Legend above to see and hear the Anishinaabemowin.

We will be adding more legends and stories in the future. Each story and legend will have an interactive audio file, so you can listen to the audio while you read the Anishinaabemowin on-screen.

The audio for each legend was created with Macromedia Flash. If you know that you do not have the Flash Player on your computer, or you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Just click the button below to go directly to the Macromedia Flash Player installation page.
